Introducing Retreat Reads: A Quarterly Book Club for Reflection, Learning, and Connection

We’re excited to introduce Retreat Reads, our new quarterly book club created for those who want to deepen their understanding of domestic violence and human trafficking through the power of storytelling.

Stories have the ability to open hearts, build empathy, and help us better understand complex experiences. In each season, we will explore a thought-provoking book that sheds light on these issues—books that educate, inspire, and spark meaningful conversation.

Hosted by Retreat Board Members Markie Hancock, Irma Negron, and Renee Turner, Retreat Reads brings together a welcoming, heartfelt community of readers who love meaningful stories and thoughtful discussion. Whether you’re deeply familiar with these topics or just beginning to learn, you are welcome here.

All gatherings are held virtually via Zoom, making it easy to join from anywhere. Each session will include engaging conversation, shared reflections, and the joy of connecting with fellow book lovers in a kind, supportive, and passionate space.

The books selected for Retreat Reads explore complex and potentially distressing themes, including domestic violence. Please take care while reading. It’s okay to move at your own pace, take breaks, or step away entirely if it feels overwhelming. Your well-being matters most. You do not need to finish the book to participate in our discussions—your presence and perspective are always enough.

To join, reserve your spot here. Then, pick up your copy of the book from your local bookstore, library, or e-book provider.
