The Southampton Youth Board is proud to honor Southampton residents who have volunteered their time, energy, and expertise on behalf of youth who are living and being raised in the Town of Southampton. The popular saying that “It takes a Village To Raise a Child” is well used, but so very true. No child is raised in a vacuum, every family is supported and influenced by the community that surrounds them. And some individuals go farther, expressing the value of our community’s youth through their actions. These individuals are deserving of our thanks and recognition, and The Southampton Youth Board selected November, a season of giving thanks, as the right time to do this.
All of the individuals being honored have been nominated by agencies who are on the front lines of providing positive youth development services in Southampton. Not only do these agencies, and their representatives that submitted nominations, value these volunteers, but our community does too. We are very happy to lead the charge.
Reece Nugent, nominated by The Retreat. Reece is currently participating in his third session as a member of The Retreat’s Teen Leaders Program. Members of The Retreat’s Teen Leaders Community Service Program learn to prevent abuse and promote respect in all relationships and help build awareness for The Retreat. Reece is a proactive member of Teen Leaders, encouraging other students to participate and spreading awareness about The Retreat in the community. Reece participates in The Retreat’s Teen Leaders Program because he wants to “keep learning and spreading awareness about domestic abuse”. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Reece sprang into action and started additional community service efforts, working at local food pantries and organizing the Marines Run for Unity to raise awareness regarding racial equality.
