By Nikki Shomer
After retiring in 2016 I moved to East Hampton and finally had the time to get involved in the community. A friend invited me to The Retreat benefit event at The Stephen Talkhouse where I met Loretta Davis, The Retreat’s Director. Our conversation inspired me to become a volunteer and I love everything that I do, from providing clerical support to serving on the Gala and Marketing Committees. I’ve met the most dedicated and talented people, both staff and fellow volunteers, and I feel happy each and every time that I give time.
For me, volunteering is a matter of the heart and I can honestly say I get far more than I give. Would you like to join me?
Nikki volunteers in the Development & Education Departments: calling donors to thank them, organizing the distribution of brochures to medical practices, and entering student surveys, among many other needed administrative functions. She also serves on the AAA Gala Committee, The Retreat’s Marketing Committee and joined the Board of Directors in 2020.
