I was chosen to serve on a police reform committee, community members who represent the diverse groups comprising the East Hampton community and am now asking for your help in gathering information to aid in building community relationships with local police.
Community input and responses are key to the ongoing “Police Reform and Reinvention” process mandated by New York State, designed to enhance respect and mutual trust between the police and community members, and promote effective, equitable policing.
Retreat clients, our court advocates, attorneys and managers interact with the East Hampton Town Police on a regular basis. The Retreat’s clients, individuals and families, represent a diverse group of people from our community who are often in dangerous, life threatening situations. Police interaction is essential for their safety.
The Police Reform and Reinvention Committee and the anonymous survey allows for all voices of our community to be heard. Participation in the survey (in English and Spanish) will contribute to the recommendations that will be made to the Town officials by the Committee. The community responses are essential to this process of open discussion, mandated by New York State, and will ” enhance respect and mutual trust between the police and community members, and promote effective, equitable policing.”
It is so important for community members to complete the survey.
This survey is presented by the Town of East Hampton and all responses are anonymous.
