El 7 de febrero de 2023, amigos, familiares y antiguos compa\u00f1eros se reunieron en las oficinas administrativas de The Retreat en East Hampton para recordar a Joe O'Connell, un pilar de la comunidad. El Sr. O'Connell falleci\u00f3 el 10 de octubre de 2022.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

El \"Dr. Joe\", como se le conoc\u00eda cari\u00f1osamente, era consejero y educador, y estaba profundamente implicado con la comunidad. En The Retreat, trabaj\u00f3 como voluntario como consejero y terapeuta, ayudando a supervivientes de abusos y violencia de g\u00e9nero. Tambi\u00e9n colabor\u00f3 en la recaudaci\u00f3n de fondos para servicios y renovaciones en la Stephanie House, el refugio seguro del Retiro. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Cuando pienso en Joe, me vienen a la mente unas cuantas palabras: Una es inspiraci\u00f3n, otra es abnegaci\u00f3n, y quiz\u00e1 una tercera es compasi\u00f3n\", dijo el Sr. Latham. \"Nunca se rend\u00eda, nunca dejaba de ser optimista respecto a que las cosas se iban a hacer... era imposible no sentirse inspirado por \u00e9l cuando estabas en su presencia\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Creo que le aportaba una incre\u00edble sensaci\u00f3n de valor y satisfacci\u00f3n saber que estaba ayudando a la gente de las formas m\u00e1s peque\u00f1as y de las formas m\u00e1s grandes\", dijo la Sra. O'Connell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Para conmemorar su vida y su legado, se colgar\u00e1 una placa en la entrada de su antiguo espacio de asesoramiento en la oficina de Retiro de East Hampton, design\u00e1ndolo como Sala de Asesoramiento Joe O'Connell. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adem\u00e1s, se ha creado un fondo en su nombre para apoyar los programas de asesoramiento de The Retreat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
