El origen de El Retiro es una historia inspiradora. En 1987, personas preocupadas por la situaci\u00f3n abrieron sus casas a familias que necesitaban un lugar seguro para evitar la violencia y los abusos en el hogar. Esos mismos residentes locales preocupados se reunieron y construyeron un refugio para la seguridad de ni\u00f1os y adultos. Sin ese refugio, algunos de los supervivientes no estar\u00edan vivos hoy. Es una historia m\u00e1gica porque los miembros de la comunidad se unieron y movieron literalmente monta\u00f1as para que esto sucediera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


\u00bfC\u00d3MO SE RELACIONA PERSONALMENTE CON LA CAUSA O QU\u00c9 LE APASIONA? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Me apasiona el trabajo de El Retiro porque ayudamos a cambiar el ciclo del abuso. Por un lado, con la ayuda de nuestros programas educativos de prevenci\u00f3n en las escuelas, cambiamos la vida de ni\u00f1os y adultos para que puedan experimentar relaciones sanas y vivir vidas sostenibles e independientes, libres de violencia. Por otro lado, trabajamos con los supervivientes y les proporcionamos servicios cr\u00edticos para que puedan curarse, f\u00edsica y mentalmente. Necesitamos ambas cosas, educaci\u00f3n para la prevenci\u00f3n y servicios para los supervivientes. Como antigua jueza, he visto el da\u00f1o causado por el abuso y la violencia y el vac\u00edo en los servicios necesarios. Nuestro mensaje es que estamos aqu\u00ed para todos los supervivientes y que el cambio es posible. Todav\u00eda nos queda mucho trabajo por hacer, pero estamos viendo un cambio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

H\u00d3MO ESPERA USTED QUE SEA EL CAMBIO EN LA COMUNIDAD? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hay muchas maneras de aportar un cambio, y en estos tiempos, esa esperanza es esencial. Nuestros programas de educaci\u00f3n preventiva se han ampliado durante el COVID, cuando los supervivientes estaban aislados y necesitaban saber que segu\u00edamos abiertos. Para nosotros es muy importante no cerrar nunca nuestras puertas en el refugio; para nuestros clientes, saber que hay ayuda disponible, especialmente en los momentos m\u00e1s dif\u00edciles, es esencial. El cambio comienza a nivel individual y se extiende al cambio comunitario. Tenemos que cambiar las percepciones sobre la forma en que la gente ve a las v\u00edctimas de abusos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Me gusta pensar que vivimos en un lugar especial. Tenemos mucha suerte de vivir aqu\u00ed. La comunidad apoya a la comunidad, y la gente de aqu\u00ed se preocupa por los que est\u00e1n en apuros. Hemos visto el poder de los individuos con la historia del origen de The Retreat. Cuando hay unas cuantas personas que se unen y crean un hogar seguro y unos servicios que hacen de nuestra comunidad un lugar m\u00e1s seguro y solidario, uno se siente bien.

El Retiro est\u00e1 creciendo en t\u00e9rminos de clientes atendidos y programas y servicios prestados. Se trata de una etapa de crecimiento para nosotros. Tenemos nuevas comunidades a las que servimos, una junta ampliada de personas dedicadas y enormes voluntarios. Estamos llenando un vac\u00edo proporcionando m\u00e1s asesoramiento a ni\u00f1os y j\u00f3venes, empezando por ni\u00f1os de tan solo 3 a\u00f1os. Nuestros donantes est\u00e1n comprometidos y son generosos a largo plazo, pero tenemos que aumentar nuestra base de donantes con nuevos partidarios e interesados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
