Senior Director of Finance and Operations

Job Summary

The Retreat is hiring a Senior Director of Finance and Operations to oversee our Finance department operations, including accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.  Duties also include monitoring cash flow, instituting best practices for the organization’s finances, and designing and implementing a strategic plan to ensure the organization’s financial stability and overall financial health.  In addition, the role will supervise and assist our human resources department, particularly employee benefits. The ideal candidate will also have experience in managing administrative functions other than accounting, finance, and human resources, and thereby, demonstrate the capability to assume a broader set of administrative and operational responsibilities across the organization, specifically The Retreats’ technology, shelter, and thrift store operations.

The Senior Director of Finance and Operations will report directly to The Retreat’s Executive Director, Loretta Davis, and will be expected to fulfill a vital and collaborative role with the ED to set and drive organizational vision, and financial and operational strategy.

Other key relationships include the Director of Finance, Human Resources Manager, Shelter Director and Thrift Store Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee preparation and ensure timely reporting of monthly, quarterly and year-end balance sheets, profit and loss and cash flow statements, and budget variance reports
  • Oversee annual budgeting exercise and report periodically on operational variance to budget.
  • Oversee and sign off on year-end audit
  • Design and implement cash flow analysis and scenario analysis to evaluate the impact of potential events and strategic decisions.
  • Ensure continued implementation of best practices for financial controls and reporting
  • Evaluate technology used for financial reporting
  • Implement goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning for supervised functional areas
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration
  • Familiar with accounting software FundEZ and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
  • Two plus years of experience leading an accounting or finance function
  • Not-for-profit experience is a plus, but not a prerequisite
  • Ability to be based principally at The Retreat offices in East Hampton, NY or at the Riverhead or Hauppauge offices with travel to East Hampton as required
