Job Summary

Responsible for basic maintenance tasks of the administrative offices, shelter facility, and thrift store. This position also responds to the needs of the agency’s additional locations in Riverhead and Hauppauge as needed.

Responsibilities

Residential Shelter

  • Oversee maintenance for the building interior/exterior, grounds, and sheds.
  • Maintain organization of stored items in the basement.
  • Inspect bedrooms before new client arrival.
  • Maintain lighting including ceiling fixtures, emergency battery packs, exit signs, security fixtures, and timers.
  • Wintertime snow removal on sidewalks.

Administrative Offices

  • Maintain organization of donations including basement storage and moving items to proper space or building.
  • Oversee deliveries and vendors.

Thrift Store

  • Assist store manager with donation pickups, storing, and organizing.

Agency Vehicles

  • Ensure inspections and registrations are up to date.
  • Ensure vehicles have adequate amounts of gas in the tank.
  • Maintain vehicle logs.

Other

  • Responsible for the enforcement of regulations and inspections imposed by various authorities, such as the Fire Marshall, NYS Department of Social Services, and the Suffolk County Department of Social Services.  Be present to assist various inspectors.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with clients. Report any unusual events.
  • Communicate priorities and schedules with the office manager and shelter director.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • General knowledge of maintenance.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (50+ pounds).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Sensitive to issues related to battered women and children.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license required.
  • A background and fingerprint check is required.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Requirement Skills
General knowledge of maintenance and ability to life heavy objects of 50 pounds or more.
